Excel supports more than 16 million colors in a cell; hence you should know how to set the exact color in a cell. To do this, you can use RGB (Red, Green, Blue) function in VBA to set the color of a cell. The function requires 3 numbers from 0 to 255 [e.g. RGB(234,232,98)]. Below is a practice code that changes cell colors to Green, Red and Blue.

Change a Cells Background Color

Public Sub ChangeCellColor()

    'Change cell color to green
    Sheet1.Range("C4").Interior.Color = RGB(0, 255, 0)

    'Change cell color to red
    Sheet1.Range("C5").Interior.Color = RGB(255, 0, 0)

    'Change cell color to blue
    Sheet1.Range("C6").Interior.Color = RGB(0, 0, 255)

VBA Code To Change Cell Color ,follow below steps:

Open an Excel file

Excel VBA Master Tool Kit
  • Press Alt+F11
  • Insert a Module (Insert>Module) from menu bar
  • Paste the code in the module
  • Now add a shape in Excel sheet
  • Give a name to the shape like ‘Change Cell Color’
  • Right click on the shape and select ‘Assign Macro…’

  • Select ‘ChangeCellColor’ from the list and click on ‘Ok’ button
